July 17th - Blissful Day

Thanks Coach Qian for the video (Wednesday's Sanda Training)

It's days like this that I really enjoy this place. Good weather, painful stretching, good attitudes, and a relaxed feeling. Obviously, everyday couldn't be like this or else we'd never be able to truly appreciate these kinds of days. Even though meditation hasn't been helping me, my progress has been super slow, the rope dart is really hard, and many other smaller challenges.

Thanks Josh for the Photo (Today's Power Stretching)

This week my motivation has been lower which has made me a bit lazier. Now that I look back at the week I think that maybe I've been a bit hard on myself. I've reviewed the Spear Form throughout the week, learned some Rope Dart Basics, and gave it my all throughout classes. I've also realized what I need to focus on for next week. (Basic stances have gotten worse...)

Thanks Shilat for the Photo (Today's Power Stretching)

"Do you know who the most excellent monks at the Temple are?

     No, who are they?

They are the ones sweeping the floor and cooking the food. They've been at the temple longer than  most."

Our Shanghai tickets and visas are sorted out and Master Peng will be gone for the weekend. I think I'll try to work on my Sword and Spear forms this weekend in case one day I want to go to a performance or competition.

This great end to a week has made me think again about future Kung Fu Journeys. I know I will have to return home in order to save money but do I want to continue this pattern in the long run? Maybe there would be a way for me to make money while on my adventure like making games, photography, writing, or something.

How has your guys' week been? Do you all have any future plans?

February 28th - My Fourth Week in a Kung Fu School

Afternoon Thoughts Man, Fridays are always a great way to wind down as it is just the perfect ending to a hard week's training. We have the Morning Tai Chi class (that I don't go to), breakfast, power stretching and then forms. After a usually delicious lunch we move on to cleaning the whole school making it, and ourselves, ready for a new week.

But before I get to today, let me talk about yesterday.

Thursday was interesting as I realized my knee was getting better but I wasn't pushing it too hard. I wanted it to heal fully. I could jog for a little bit but I just walked the morning 2km. Then came Qi Gong (ζ°”εŠŸ) class taught by Master Yan. We learned/reviewed Yi Jin Jing (ζ˜“η‹η») which I realized I had forgotten almost everything but luckily "The Ten Tiger" Shilat and Master Yan were willing to explain some of the moves to me. So thanks!

After our morning Qi Gong, I was really tired and had an upset stomach from eating to much breakfast. But, once power training came…

January 22nd - Travelling in Shanghai

My Thoughts πŸ€” ζˆ‘ηš„ζƒ³ζ³• I've finally arrived in Shanghai. After a long journey from Minnesota to Dallas and finally to Shanghai, I made it. No flight delays, no bad weather, just a simple day of flying. The hotel that I stayed at was pretty good. I tested my Chinese by trying to check-in and out using only Chinese with a little success but I didn't do that well. I did test myself one other time and that was to order breakfast today! This I did really well and I even understood the hotel staff on the phone, which was surprising.

I have felt weird coming back to China. A few things happened that made me think, "Yup, I'm really back in China". People staring at me, check! The crowded metro stations and sidewalks, check! People talking about me in Chinese because they think I don't understand, check! People arguing on the metro over dumb things, check! Just so many things that make me realize, no, re-realize how different life is here and in America. I'm back to…

February 22nd - Exploring the Village

Morning/Afternoon Thoughts 🌞 Well, as with every Saturday I called my mom, dad and sister talking to them about how they are and how my time is here. Its always nice to see what everyone is doing as I can get so focused on what I'm doing and struggling with that seeing we are all dealing with our own day to day life is... "grounding". If you've read the other post, then you'll know I'm injured with a hurt knee so I can't do much besides rest and some light stretching.

What will my plans for today be?

I want to do some arm workouts that I normally don't do. Pushups will be one of them and maybe curling some weights will help too. Nothing too strenuous as I noticed this morning that my knee is still very sensitive to support at the moment. After the arm workout I plan on doing some normal stretches and maybe looking up some other kinds of stretches to help my lower back and "forward" flexibility for the forward splits.

Once my "training…
